If you have only one day to spend at Universal Orlando Resort, you might be wondering how to maximize your time and experience as much as possible. The good news is that with careful planning, you can enjoy the best attractions, dining venues, and other immersive experiences in just one day.
This one-day itinerary for Universal Studios Florida covers everything from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Illumination’s Minion Land, DreamWorks Land, and more.

Universal Studios Florida Overview
Universal Studios Florida has so many exciting things to see and do. The park is divided into eight different sections, each offering unique theming, atmospheres, and attractions.
You can admire the classic brownstones and iconic New York City buildings before embarking on a wild, high-speed adventure on Revenge of the Mummy, or take things a little slower over in Hollywood, where you’ll find live stage shows and more, all inspired by the excitement of the movie industry.
Of course, one of the most popular areas in Universal Studios is Diagon Alley, where you can step directly into the magical world of Harry Potter. Here, you’ll find immersive shops, interactive wand experiences, delicious Butterbeer treats, a fire-breathing dragon, and the ever-popular Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts roller coaster.
With so much to do, having a plan is crucial to making the most of your time, especially if you only have one day in the park. This Universal Studios one-day itinerary will help you prioritize the park’s biggest highlights. However, the best itinerary is one that’s fully customizable based on your interests, travel party, and priorities.

Best Rides for Kids
Universal Studios is a theme park built for all ages. However, that doesn’t mean that everything inside the park is kid-friendly. There are definitely some bigger coasters geared toward adrenaline-junkies, while others are perfect for your tike’s first visit. The minimum height requirement for the attractions and kid-friendly experiences listed below is 40” or less!
- Despicable Me Minion Mayhem™
- E.T. Adventure
- Fast & Furious – Supercharged
- Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast (handheld infants aren’t permitted)
- Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl
- Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon
- The Simpsons Ride™
- TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D
- Trolls Trollercoaster
- King Harold’s Swamp Symphony
- Poppy’s Playground
- Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp
- Mama Luna Feline Fiesta

Best Rides for Adults
Universal Studios is known for its massive coasters that feature high-speed launches, gravity-defying drops, and more. Although Islands of Adventure is home to many of Universal Orlando’s biggest thrill rides, Universal Studios Florida offers some attractions that coaster junkies won’t want to miss.
- Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts™
- MEN IN BLACK™ Alien Attack!™
- Revenge of the Mummy™
- Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift (coming 2027)
The Ultimate Universal Studios One Day Itinerary
This jam-packed Universal Studios itinerary was created for theme park guests who want to do everything (or as much as possible) in a limited amount of time. Your final itinerary might differ depending on factors such as crowd levels, Express Pass access, and more.
In the end, it’s really, really hard to have a bad day at Universal Studios, especially if you’ve done your research and go in with an open mind and realistic expectations.
Park Opening / Morning
Universal Studios generally opens later than Islands of Adventure, around 10:00 a.m., and staying on-site doesn’t guarantee you early entry, unlike Islands of Adventure. That said, opening time varies by season, so be sure to check the official schedule before your visit!
Either way, I’d recommend arriving at least 45 minutes before park opening. This will give you a chance to go through CityWalk security, take pictures of the famous rotating Universal globe, and maybe even grab a coffee from Starbucks.

When deciding where to start your day, my favorite place is Diagon Alley. Not only is Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts one of the major attractions, but it’s nice to explore Diagon Alley before the afternoon crowds arrive. You can buy an interactive wand at Ollivanders and practice spells, too!
The Leaky Cauldron is a great place to fuel up for the day, if you haven’t already. The kids’ meals are hearty and even come with a small Butterbeer of your choosing (i.e., frozen, hot, or regular).
Options include a traditional English breakfast, an American breakfast, or a pancake breakfast. All three come with a flaky buttery croissant and cost just $13.99.
Alternatively, you can start your day in the New York-themed area of the park since Revenge of the Mummy is also one of the most popular attractions in Universal Studios. Parents with young children may prefer to make a beeline to DreamWorks Land since the line for the Trolls Trollercoaster tends to get long in the afternoon.

Late Morning / Early Afternoon
If you went straight to Diagon Alley, your next stop should be Fast & Furious – Supercharged in the San Francisco area. You could go to the right and knock off Men in Black ALIEN ATTACK, too. Either way, crossing off the San Francisco and World Expo areas from your list establishes which route you’ll want to stick to for the rest of the day to minimize backtracking.
Fast & Furious would be my preferred pick, though, since it’s on the way back to New York and means you could be in line for Revenge of the Mummy by lunchtime.
Plus, there’s not much more to see in San Francisco, other than an arcade and a few souvenir shops, so you could also bypass it if the Fast & Furious ride isn’t something that’s on your must-do list. However, since this ride is permanently closing sometime in 2027, it may be worth riding at least once to say you did it.
After riding Revenge of the Mummy, you’ll want to cross off all the other attractions in the New York area, including TRANSFORMERS and Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon. If the wait times aren’t too bad, you can also break and do them after lunch. It just depends on how quickly you’re moving through the park.

Lunch
By this point, you’ll likely need a midday rest. Thankfully, there are tons of yummy options near New York.
One of my personal favorites is Mel’s Drive-In for their crispy chicken tenders and fries, but if you want something more immersive, check out Illumination’s Minion Cafe. The El Macho Nacho Hat, served with tortilla chips and house-made guacamole inside of El Macho’s signature sombrero, is a fun treat!
Regardless of where you decide to eat, I’d highly recommend taking advantage of Universal’s mobile ordering feature through the app. This allows you to pre-order your food and avoid waiting in long lines, so you can get back to enjoying the park faster.
Early Afternoon
Once you’ve finished eating, head to Illumination’s Minion Land. Typically, the wait for Villain-Con Minion Blast is pretty short. Minion Mayhem, on the other hand, can have a longer queue since it is the more popular of the two.
If the heat is starting to get to you, this is also a great place to grab a refreshing sweet treat from Freeze Ray Pops. The walk-up window has tons of different popsicle flavors to choose from, some of which are uniquely inspired by the Minions universe.

Late Afternoon
From there, make your way toward Hollywood. Although this section of the park doesn’t have any major attractions, it’s home to multiple fun entertainment experiences and is where you can meet different characters like Scooby-Doo, Homer Simpson, and SpongeBob SquarePants. Their exact locations can be found on the Universal Orlando mobile app.
Live-action shows in the Hollywood area include The Bourne Stuntacular, Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show, and Animal Actors on Location. Showtimes vary, so be sure to plan this time carefully using the app! You can easily bop back and forth between shows and the Minion rides, if that’s easier.
Dinner / Early Evening
DreamWorks Land is especially popular with younger guests. However, it can be fun for adults, too! Here, you can meet beloved characters like Donkey, Shrek, and Fiona.
If you are traveling without kids, you can skip this part – unless you want to take a quick walk-through and grab a Shrekzel, a Shrek-shaped pretzel.

However, if you have kids, this area is likely to be a huge hit, so you may want to incorporate it earlier in the day! For example, after starting at Diagon Alley, you can pass the World Expo and make your way directly toward DreamWorks Land before it becomes too hectic.
Springfield has a ton of restaurants for dinner, ranging from Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck for affordable tacos to Luigi’s Pizza for a quick and kid-friendly option and Cletus’ Chicken Shack for chicken sandwiches.
Late Evening
I know, I know — by this point, you’re likely exhausted. Thankfully, you’ve almost visited every area of Universal Studios! After wrapping up dinner, you can hit the two attractions in Springfield: The Simpsons Ride and Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl.
There are also a ton of carnival-style games. However, I usually skip these since they’re an extra cost, and I’d rather spend my time doing things that are unique to the parks!
In my opinion, MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack is such an underrated ride. If you’ve ever been to Walt Disney World, it’s kind of like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, where you’re actively moving in a secure ride vehicle and aiming to shoot targets to earn points.

Once you’ve ridden that, you’ll have officially made your way through all eight different areas of the park! However, before dragging yourself back to your hotel or nearby rental, I’d highly recommend stopping by Diagon Alley one last time.
It has a completely different feel at night, and it’s the best time to see the dragon perched atop Gringotts Bank breathe fire! This happens every ten to fifteen minutes, and you’ll hear grumbling before it happens.
You can’t go wrong with one final treat, either. You deserve it after walking off so many calories! Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour has everything from traditional soft-serve to hot fudge sundaes and even Butterbeer-flavored ice cream. Yum!

Plus, you’ll want to make your way to the lagoon at park close for the nighttime show, CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular. This 22-minute show features dancing water fountains, drones, and pyrotechnics set to popular movie soundtracks. It’s the perfect way to end your day at Universal Studios Florida!
Late-Night Transportation
One thing I love about staying on-site at Universal Orlando Resort is the complimentary transportation. They make it incredibly easy to get from Universal Studios to all eleven hotels, ranging from the walkable Hard Rock Hotel to the Epic Universe-adjacent Terra Luna Resort.
Resort transportation typically stops an hour after CityWalk closes, so you don’t have to worry about rushing to the water taxi or bus if you decide to linger longer. Adults, for instance, may want to visit the Red Coconut Club to check out its current theme.
And there you have it! A full, jam-packed one-day itinerary to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. One day is certainly enough to experience the park’s highlights, and you may choose to return in the future!
