On the flip side, you may want to visit during one of the theme park’s many seasonal events, such as Butterbeer Season or the Holiday Celebration, where you can see the park decked out in festive decorations and enjoy other unique experiences that aren’t available year-round. 

In this detailed guide, I’ll share the best and worst times to visit Universal Orlando Resort in 2026 and 2027. 

As someone who has been to the parks throughout the year — from long weekends in October to spring break visits and sweltering summer days in July — I’ve personally learned that each season offers a different experience. 

Whether your goal is to experience as many attractions as possible with minimal waits, save money on Universal Orlando Resort tickets and hotels, or enjoy the parks during a seasonal event, this guide will help you determine the ideal time for your next fun-filled trip.

When is the Best Time of Year to Visit Universal Orlando to Avoid Crowds?

The short answer: January, February, August, September 

The longer answer: Crowd levels are one of the most unpredictable things about visiting Universal Orlando Resort. Still, there are certain times of the year that generally see fewer guests. 

If avoiding crowds is your top priority when planning your Universal Orlando Resort vacation, it is best to steer clear of peak travel periods such as spring break, summer, and the winter holiday season.

Historically, you’ll find the lightest crowds from January through early February, after the holiday rush has ended and before Presidents Day weekend brings an increase in visitors.

The same can be said for late August and September, since many schools across the United States will have resumed by then, resulting in fewer family vacations to theme parks. 

I’ve also discovered that the weeks immediately following spring break are pretty pleasant, with short wait times for popular attractions like Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and VelociCoaster. 

In 2027, most primary school spring break vacations should wrap up by mid-April, with most falling somewhere around Easter on March 28.

When is the Best Time of Year to Visit Universal Orlando for the Best Weather?

The short answer: January, February, November, and December

The longer answer: Although Central Florida is known for brutally high temperatures and unbearable humidity, it is possible to plan a trip to Universal Orlando Resort that doesn’t leave you questioning your family vacation plans. 

You’ll find some of the most pleasant weather conditions in January, February, November, and December, letting you fully enjoy the theme parks without feeling as though you just got out of a swimming pool. 

For example, January is mild and dry, with average daily highs in the low 70s. The mornings and evenings can be chilly, with temperatures frequently dipping into the low 50s.

Comparatively, July is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and uncomfortable temperatures that climb into the 90s. 

The Cheapest Times to Visit Universal Orlando

The short answer: January, February, August, September 

The longer answer: Universal Orlando Resort vacations have gotten more expensive in recent years. However, it’s possible to plan an affordable trip by traveling at the right time. 

Currently, Universal Orlando theme park tickets use a date-based pricing system, meaning that ticket prices vary depending on the specific days you choose to visit.

Both ticket and hotel prices are generally lower during the shoulder season months when there are fewer visitors. Similarly, they’re higher during peak travel months. As such, the cheapest times to visit Universal Orlando are often the least crowded. 

In 2026, a one-day, park-to-park ticket (with admission to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure) starts at $179 per adult. However, it can get as pricey as $244 during holiday weeks. 

A one-day ticket to Epic Universe starts at $139, with the most expensive dates costing as much as $209 per adult. 

Should You Avoid the Parks during Universal Orlando Events?

Universal Orlando events — like Halloween Horror Nights, Mardi Gras, and the Holiday Celebration — often play a role in both crowd levels and pricing throughout the year, especially on weekends. 

For example, Halloween Horror Nights is one of the biggest crowd-drawing events of the year. It runs on select nights from late summer through November 1. 

During this period, it is not uncommon to see increased crowds in the evenings, especially at parks like Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe, since Universal Studios requires a separate ticket for event entry. Additionally, on-site hotels are often priced higher due to strong demand. 

Similarly, the Mardi Gras celebration in the spring brings live concerts, themed food booths, and fun parades to Universal Studios. Although the event is included with regular park admission, it tends to draw larger crowds, especially on concert nights and weekends. 

Additionally, the latter part of the Mardi Gras event often overlaps with the busy spring break season, which already sees increased attendance across the theme parks.

Finally, the Holiday Celebration in November and December is another major event that’s popular among tourists and locals alike. It transforms the parks with festive decorations, seasonal shows, and limited-time experiences, such as Grinchmas at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, where you can splurge on a character breakfast with the Grinch and friends. 

In the end, visiting the theme parks during special Universal Orlando events is a great way to get more out of your vacation. However, these periods typically see both higher prices and greater crowds. This can mean longer wait times for popular attractions and a busier overall park experience, from dining to shopping.

So, When are the Best Months to Visit Universal Orlando?

January through early February sees some of the lowest crowds at Universal Orlando. Plus, the weather is typically comfortable with moderate daytime highs and low humidity, and pricing is often lower compared to peak travel seasons. 

As such, this is a great time for guests to visit the Central Florida theme parks and take advantage of the cooler weather and lower wait times. 

Come March, crowds and prices start increasing, as spring break travel picks up and continues through April. Unfortunately, this trend typically carries into the summer months, with attendance and pricing rising as schools let out and vacation season gets underway.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t find some deals later in the spring. Late April and early May, before Memorial Day, can offer more moderate crowds and better pricing, especially on weekdays. I’ve also found that you can sometimes score great on-site hotel rates in July, though park ticket prices remain high. 

From late August through September, crowd levels generally start dropping as many schools are back in session. However, the weather is still hot, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Combined, these factors make this time of year one of the most affordable — for those who can tolerate the heat and humidity. 

Finally, October through early January often sees the highest crowd levels and peak pricing of the year since the parks are packed with major seasonal events. October is the busiest time of year for the ever-popular Halloween Horror Nights, which is known for its haunted houses, scare zones, and immersive experiences.

Once Halloween ends, the focus quickly shifts to the Holiday Celebration, where the parks are fully decorated for the holidays. Unless you are determined to experience the festive seasonal celebration, this is one of the worst times of the year to visit Universal Orlando.
