I Stayed at the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Orlando – Here’s My Full Review of This Tropical-Inspired Gem

Universal Orlando has nearly one dozen on-site hotels, ranging from affordable budget stays to luxurious Italian-themed resorts. However, sandwiched between the value options and the premium resorts sits a hotel that often gets overlooked: Loews Sapphire Falls Resort.

I recently stayed at this Caribbean-themed resort to check out everything it has to offer park guests — from the sprawling pool area to convenient transportation options, spacious accommodations, and the overall island atmosphere.

My three-night stay was too short, and I’m already dreaming about returning to this hidden gem on Universal property. In this article, I’ll break down all the highlights (and drawbacks) of staying at the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort in Orlando, Florida.

About Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Orlando

Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Orlando is one of five hotels in the Signature Collection, alongside the Loews Portofino Bay Resort, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel, and the Helios Grand Hotel.

As a signature resort, you will benefit from a greater variety of dining and recreational options — ranging from the largest pool on Universal property to lively karaoke sessions, and more.

Plus, it is typically more affordable than some of its higher-end sister properties since it does NOT include complimentary Universal Express Unlimited Passes. However, that trade-off makes it an appealing option for travelers looking to balance comfort, amenities, and value.

Overview

  • Hotel Category: Signature Collection
  • Price: $194-$480 per night average
  • Resort Area: Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Atmosphere & Theming

If you’re dreaming of a tropical getaway and an action-packed theme park vacation, the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Orlando offers the best of both worlds. The hotel blends its Caribbean theme with easy access to the Universal parks.

The lush vegetation, cascading waterfalls, and Bahamian-inspired colonial architecture will transport you to an island paradise, rather than immersing you in the Universal cinematic universe — you’ll see enough of Shrek, Harry Potter, Gru, and Toothless in the parks!

Our Loews Sapphire Falls Resort Review

I spent three nights at the Sapphire Falls Resort in February 2026. It was my first time splurging on a signature resort, having previously only stayed at the Terra Luna Resort near Epic Universe

As out-of-state passholders, we took full advantage of the Universal passholder hotel rates, which made enjoying the resort’s full range of amenities more affordable and justifiable.

Our three-night stay over a holiday weekend came to $923.41, including taxes and resort fees. Without the discount, the same room would have cost roughly $1,160.

Overall, our stay at the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort was a worthwhile splurge, and I’d happily stay here again — here’s why.

The Room

When my partner and I decided to splurge on a Universal hotel, rather than booking the cheapest option, we wanted more than a basic hotel where we could recharge between long park days. Enter the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort: the room, with its Caribbean-inspired touches, was spacious and comfortable.

We weren’t concerned about the view, so we opted for the most affordable choice, a standard room with two queen beds. At check-in, we were greeted warmly by the staff, who asked if we had a preference on room location. Since we weren’t familiar with the size of the resort, we said whatever was most convenient to the elevators was fine.

In hindsight, I wish we had requested something a bit closer to the water taxi dock. There was nothing wrong with our room (2203), but getting to the dock required going up to the main lobby and then back down toward the waterfront on the other side of the resort. Learning from this mistake, I’d ask for a room in the 3000-wing (otherwise known as Guest House 3) next time.

Other than that, we loved our room at the Sapphire Falls Resort. The beds were comfortable, and the subtle Caribbean-inspired décor gave the space a bright, welcoming vibe.

The room was well-appointed with a large flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge, a built-in safe, a full-length mirror, and plenty of storage space. The bathroom was a highlight, featuring a spacious shower, solid water pressure, and a sliding door that separated the shower and toilet from the vanity area — perfect for getting ready before the parks.

The room also included a coffee maker, stocked with decaf and medium-dark coffee pods, along with green tea, sugar, and half-and-half. We did not take advantage of this, though. Instead, we started our mornings at the New Dutch Trading Co., but more on that later.

Bottled water was provided as well, but I’d suggest bringing a refillable water bottle, since the Fiji water in the room was $8 per bottle.

Overall, we were very happy with our standard room. While being located in Guest House 3 would have made coming and going from the parks more convenient, the space itself was comfortable and could easily accommodate a family of four.

Pro tip: Request daily housekeeping at check-in! It was a small but appreciated touch to return each evening to freshly made beds and clean bath towels.

Food and Drinks

We primarily ate in the parks during our visit to Universal Orlando. However, we did take advantage of this resort’s convenient dining options a few times.

New Dutch Trading Co. Review

The Sapphire Falls Resort doesn’t have a Starbucks on-site, but that doesn’t mean quality coffee isn’t available. New Dutch Trading Co. offers a variety of espresso-based drinks, brewed coffee, and teas, as well as pastries, breakfast sandwiches, grab-and-go options, canned alcoholic beverages, and a Coca-Cola® Freestyle machine.

In the mornings, the line could get considerably long. I’d recommend giving yourself up to 15 minutes to order and receive your coffee, especially if you’re trying to make the most of the resort’s early park admission benefit.

Pricing varies from $3 for a bagel to $9.50 for a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. Small coffees start at $3.50, while a large frozen latte can cost up to $6.75. Extras like espresso shots, alternative milks, and flavored syrups are also available for an additional charge.

Drhum Club Kantine Review

Located at the Sapphire Falls Resort pool, Drhum Club Kantine is the perfect spot for a casual lunch or cocktail break. You can either enjoy table service or order from a server while relaxing in the lounge chairs.

The Mojo Chicken Crunch Wrap was delicious, and I was served a crisp Diet Coke (if you know, you know). Other options include Tampico Nachos ($27), Brick Oven Pizzas ($12-$13), Crab Cake Sandwiches ($28), Mahi-Mahi Tacos ($24), and Short Rib Burgers ($24).

We didn’t order any alcoholic beverages, but there was an extensive menu ranging from signature cocktails to frozen favorites, wines by the glass, hard seltzers, and domestic and imported beer.

Amenities & Recreation

One of the best amenities that the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort offers is the expansive pool area. In fact, it was one of the deciding factors when we chose our Universal hotel.

However, children will love the arcade, and there’s a complimentary fitness center for those who determine that 15,000+ steps in the parks isn’t quite enough.

Adults should check out the Strong Water Tavern at night, too. As we walked past when returning to our room, we noticed live music and karaoke sessions.

Main Pool

As much as theme park vacations are about thrilling roller coasters, character meet-and-greets, and immersive experiences, it’s important to find time to relax and recharge. At Sapphire Falls Resort, finding that balance was easy thanks to the impressive 16,000-square-foot, zero-entry pool.

In the afternoons, we’d return to the hotel to rest, lounge, and catch up on our TBR (“to be read”) list by the pool. It was never unreasonably busy, and we could easily locate prime lounge chairs. Complimentary towels, along with kids’ life jackets, are available, too.

The pool area also features white-sand beaches, a children’s splash pad area, a water slide, hot tubs, and a fire pit. Those seeking the ultimate pool day can rent a private cabana, complete with a flat-screen television, stocked fridge, outlets, ceiling fan, and a dedicated server.

Transportation

Although the Sapphire Falls Resort offers bus transportation to all four theme parks, we relied solely on the water taxi. We rarely — if ever — waited more than 15 minutes for a taxi to arrive, and we got to bypass CityWalk’s hectic security screening since all water taxi passengers are screened at the hotel’s dock.

The ride was just a few minutes and dropped us off in the heart of CityWalk, just steps from Auntie Anne’s, Voodoo Donuts, and the NBC Sports Grill & Brew.

At night, we didn’t have to make the dreaded walk through CityWalk, either. The water taxi picked us up right at the dock and got us back to the resort in minutes — perfect when our legs felt like they were mere seconds from giving out.

One thing to note is that the water taxi transportation is subject to weather conditions. Only once during our three-night stay were we told that it was too windy for the taxis to operate. As such, we opted for the scenic walking path, which took about 15 minutes.

Overall Loews Sapphire Falls Resort Review

All on-site hotels offer early park admission and complimentary transportation; however, Sapphire Falls stands out for its added benefits, including an expansive pool, scenic water taxi transfers, convenient CityWalk access, and an immersive tropical atmosphere.

Because it is neither the cheapest Universal hotel nor one that includes Unlimited Express Passes, this tropical-inspired gem is often overlooked. But in my opinion, you can’t find a better on-site hotel that offers the same convenience and value.
