Is Disney World worth it for adults? The debate between Disney Adults and those who are decidedly not Disney Adults has become lively over the years, but what if you’re stuck in the middle? You’re not totally in love with Disney, but you also find yourself wondering if a trip to the theme parks would be fun now that you’re older. Well, you’ve come to the right place! I might be a Disney Adult myself, but I’ve learned that this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s for everyone. So, I’m here to tell you what I tell my friends who ask me this question to help you decide if your next vacation should be to Walt Disney World!

Is Disney World Worth It For Adults?
As someone who has been to Disney World more times as an adult than as a kid, I get this question from people all. the. time. – Is Disney World worth it for adults? For some people, the answer to this question is simple, but for others it’s not quite as clear-cut.
The answer really depends on whether you’re someone who enjoys what Disney World has to offer. Do you want to feel like a kid again and vacation through all your childhood memories? Are you willing to try new things that you didn’t get to experience as a kid because they were more geared towards adults? Or, would this be your first trip to Disney World, and you just want to see what all the hype is about?
Regardless of why you’re thinking about going to Disney as an adult, let’s get one thing clear – Disney World is for adults, too! So, how do you determine if you should (or shouldn’t) splurge on a trip to “the most magical place on earth”? Let’s dive into the pros and cons.

Pros of Visiting Disney World as an Adult
Disney World transforms from a childhood destination into an upscale vacation experience for adults if you’re looking in the right places. The resort offers luxury accommodations that rival world-class hotels, restaurants that compete with major metropolitan dining scenes, and entertainment options designed specifically for grown-up tastes. Here are the PROS of going to Disney World as an adult!
Luxury Hotels You’ll Actually Appreciate
While there are definitely hotels that scream all things Disney with giant statues of characters and bright colors, that’s not all that Disney has to offer. Disney’s deluxe resorts offer luxury accommodations with subtle Disney themes, allowing you to experience a more upscale and elegant stay compared to Disney’s value and moderate resorts.
For example, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has the elegance of the Victorian era with marble floors, crystal chandeliers, and live piano music in the lobby every evening. And, over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, the atmosphere is more laid back with private balconies overlooking active African savannas with wildlife wandering around daily. Plus, places like Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge immerse you in the outdoors, allowing you to feel like you’ve truly escaped to the tropics or the mountains while still being in Walt Disney World.
Of course, it’s not just the atmosphere that you’ll enjoy as an adult at these resorts. You can take advantage of some of the best amenities Disney has to offer outside of the theme parks, like full-service spas, fine dining restaurants with award-winning chefs, and relaxing pools by the beach. As an adult, a Disney hotel stay is a completely different ballgame.

EPCOT’s Year-Round Festivals
While EPCOT’s festivals are certainly fun for the whole family, they’re more geared towards adult guests. And, that’s truly why they’ve become so popular!
EPCOT hosts four festivals throughout the year, with only weeks (or even days) separating them. During these events, the park transforms into a foodie wonderland, with food booths stationed throughout the park that allow you to sample small plates and drinks from around the world. Plus, there are even live performances every night with popular bands or Broadway stars taking to the outdoor stage, depending on the festival.
Be sure to time your trip around these festivals if you’re on an adults-only trip, because this is something you truly don’t want to miss!
Current EPCOT festivals include:
- Festival of the Holidays (November-December): Holiday traditions and seasonal foods
- Festival of the Arts (January-February): Visual arts, culinary arts, and Broadway performances
- Flower & Garden Festival (March-July): Topiary displays and fresh marketplace offerings
- Food & Wine Festival (July/August-November): International cuisines and premium beverages

Dining That Rivals Major Cities
Disney World is home to over 200 restaurants, and you bet that they’re not all filled with burgers and fries! In fact, there’s a whole category of restaurants in the parks and resorts with dining experiences geared for adults. Signature restaurants are some of the best places to eat in Walt Disney World, and any adult traveler is sure to appreciate their meal.
And, if you really want to go all out and experience the best of dining when you’re in Disney World on an adults-only trip, you can try Disney’s award-winning restaurants, including Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, which holds AAA Five Diamond status AND a MICHELIN star.
So, if you think that only kids will appreciate the food in Disney World, think again! You actually might find yourself planning an adults trip to the parks just because you want to try more food.

The “Adult” Side of Disney
While most families are watching fireworks on the crowded streets of Main Street, U.S.A., or getting in one last ride, when you travel as an adult, you get to experience a whole different side of Disney World nightlife.
Disney Springs is home to some of the most lively nighttime entertainment, and Disney’s BoardWalk is a close second. And, of course, without kids, you can spend your time making your way to the adults-only parts of the parks and resorts. One of my favorite things to do is check out the bars and lounges in the Disney Resorts or grab a drink and watch the nighttime entertainment in the more secluded areas of the parks (or even at the nearby hotels!).
Ultimately, as an adult in Disney World, you’ll likely find yourself doing things you didn’t even know existed because you were too young to experience them before!

World-Class Theme Parks Aren’t Just for Kids
Listen, the theme parks might have been made with kids in mind, but the big-kids-at-heart can still experience (and love!) them too! Even adults can have fun in any of the four theme parks, and if you’re taking a trip to Disney World in the first place, you should visit them all.
However, some theme parks are better for adults than others. For example, Magic Kingdom is a must-do for any Disney trip, but you might find that you get through the park pretty quickly if you’re not willing to ride the kid-oriented attractions. However, you might find that your day is packed with rides when you visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios as an adult because of all the thrill rides. And, over at EPCOT, you can make a whole day out of eating and drinking around the world!
There’s a reason that the Disney Parks are loved by young and old, and getting to experience them as an adult at your own pace is one of the things that makes going to Disney World worth it for adults! Plus, you’ll probably notice some hidden details and easter eggs that you never saw before.

Cons of Visiting Disney World as an Adult
So, when is Disney World NOT worth it for adults? Here are some things that make a trip to the parks as an adult less ideal.
The Cost Adds Up Fast
Disney World ranks among the most expensive vacation destinations in the United States. Park tickets alone cost $119-$200+ per person, per day, depending on the season and park. On top of that, hotel prices at Disney resorts start around $150 per night for value resorts and can exceed $700+ for deluxe villas. And then add food costs, Lightning Lanes, and any other add-ons to your trip that add up way too quickly over even a short vacation.
A typical 4-day adult trip can easily cost $2,000-$4,000 per person when including flights, hotels, tickets, food, and extras. When you compare that to a vacation to another destination (or even a Disney Cruise), the cost of a Disney World trip can be a dealbreaker.

You’re Still Surrounded by Families
Disney World attracts millions of families annually, making it impossible to escape children’s energy and noise levels, even if you aren’t traveling with any. Stroller traffic clogs walkways and creates a headache during peak hours, lines move more slowly when families need extra time boarding rides or managing young children, and character meet-and-greets focus on children, often leaving adults feeling awkward or out of place.
With the exception of a few 21+ only bars and lounges, there’s simply no escaping the family madness. So, if you want a more quiet vacation as an adult, a Disney trip may not be the right choice.

It’s Not a Kick-Back-and-Relax Trip
When you vacation at Disney World, you’re constantly moving and making decisions. You’ll be standing in long lines that you can’t anticipate, navigating crowds of 50,000+ people in the parks, climbing stairs and walking long distances between attractions, and dealing with the Florida heat and humidity year-round. That can take a lot of energy!
You can’t simply show up and wing it like other vacation destinations. Every aspect needs advance planning to maximize your expensive investment. And, if you do end up trying a more laid-back approach to planning, you’ll often find that the things you want to do aren’t available at the last minute.
All this to say…a Disney World trip isn’t relaxing, even as an adult. If your ideal vacation involves lounging by the pool all day and grabbing a bite whenever you feel like it, you might be unhappy with how fast-paced Disney can be.

Planning Can Feel Like Homework
I often say that it requires a PhD in Disney to plan a Disney World vacation nowadays. And, while that is a bit of an exaggeration, you do need to do more planning for a Disney trip than you would for another destination.
From choosing your hotel, to picking which parks you’re going to visit each day, to setting alarms for when you can make dining reservations and purchase Lightning Lanes, you need to keep track of a lot or risk not being able to do what you want to do because it’s already booked up.

The Disney “Bubble” Isn’t for Everyone
When it comes down to it, some people just aren’t Disney people – and that’s okay! If you’re someone who rolls their eyes at happily ever afters or anything that feels overly “produced,” you might find that Disney World feels suffocating or inauthentic to you.
However, if you aren’t a Disney person, but are invited on a Disney trip with friends or family who have kids, consider suspending your opinions for a short period of time. A lot of adults find that getting to experience the parks through the eyes of a kid can actually make the parks a ton of fun, even if you don’t buy into the Disney “bubble.”
