Planning a trip to Disney World in August? You might be surprised to learn that this month is one of the most underrated times to visit. August in Disney World brings lighter crowds as schools across the country head back into session, lower prices later in the month, and plenty of special events to keep your days filled with magic. From the grand kickoff of EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival to Disney H2O Glow After Hours and the last hurrah for Cool Kid Summer activities, there’s more happening this month than you might realize.
So, whether you’re hoping to score great discounts or soak up the summer fun with shorter lines and lighter crowds, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about crowds, weather, pricing, and what’s new for August 2026 in Disney World!

Disney World Events in August
August in Disney World is a slower month compared to the previous summer months; however, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a lot to look forward to! In 2026, there are several after-hours events to take advantage of (if you’re willing to pay a little extra for tickets and extra time in the park with low crowds), the start of Halloween celebrations with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party beginning August 7th, and the end of the month is the official kick off for the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. This is one of the most popular EPCOT festivals of the year and being there for the first weekend makes you one of the first people to taste and see it all!
August is also the last full month to participate in Disney’s Cool Kid Summer events. You’ll find special character meet-and-greet opportunities, crafts, dance parties, and more throughout all four theme parks, so be sure to keep your eyes out for these exclusive offerings!
Here’s a look at what you can look forward to during your visit in August 2026:
- Disney H2O Glow After Hours at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon: August 9th, 22nd, and 29th, 2026
- Disney After Hours at Hollywood Studios: August 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th, 2026
- Disney After Hours at EPCOT: August 6th and 13th, 2026
- Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: August 7th, 11th, 14th, 18th, 21st, 23rd, 25th, 28th, and 30th, 2026
- EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival: August 27th through November 21st, 2026
- Cool Kid Summer: May 26th through September 8th, 2026
Be sure to check Disney’s theme park hours to see how/if any of these events will impact your park day plans.

August in Disney World Crowds
August in Disney World tends to bring some of the lightest crowds of the year, especially as schools across the country head back. If you’re visiting later in the month, you’ll likely enjoy thinner crowds in the parks and shorter wait times for many attractions. That being said, keep in mind that the first weekend of EPCOT’s International Food & Wine Festival is a big exception. This kickoff weekend draws a lot of locals and vacationers to the park, so plan for heavier crowds and long lines at the festival booths if you’re hoping to be one of the first to experience it.
Even though crowds are lighter in August, it’s still a good idea to take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Theme Park Hours (if you’re staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort or Villa). These resort perks let you ride some of Disney’s most popular attractions before or after the daytime crowds, making it much easier to fit everything in without spending hours in line.

Should You Purchase Lightning Lane Services?
August is one of the few times of year at Disney World when you might not need to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass, or Premier Pass to get everything done in one trip. With lighter crowds and shorter wait times, especially later in the month, you can often experience most rides without spending extra to skip the lines. This is great news if you’re trying to stick to a budget or simply enjoy a more laid-back pace in the parks.
That said, Lightning Lane services can still be worth considering in a few situations. If you’re visiting for a short trip and want to pack as much as possible into each day, or if waiting in lines of any length just isn’t your thing, having access to these services can take the pressure off. Plus, the good news is that Lightning Lane pricing often dips slightly in August due to lower demand, making it one of the more affordable times of year to add this to your vacation budget.

Disney World Weather in August
August in Disney World is peak summer in Florida, which means hot, humid days and a high chance of afternoon thunderstorms. It’s also the heart of hurricane season, so it’s a good idea to start monitoring the weather about a week before your trip. While it’s not common for hurricanes to make landfall in Central Florida, severe weather can still impact travel plans and park operations, so having a flexible itinerary (and travel insurance) can give you peace of mind.
When it comes to packing for the weather in August, prioritize lightweight, breathable clothing to stay cool in the heat, and don’t forget rain gear like ponchos or compact umbrellas for those daily downpours. Waterproof shoes or sandals can also be a lifesaver when navigating puddles in the parks. If you’re traveling with kids, consider bringing a small fan or cooling towels to help everyone stay comfortable during the hottest parts of the day. And, of course, sunscreen and refillable water bottles are must-haves to keep your family hydrated without having to pay for overpriced water.

Disney World Water Parks in August
August is one of the best months of the year to visit Disney World’s water parks, with both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach open daily. Whether you’re looking to relax in a lazy river, catch a wave in Typhoon Lagoon’s massive surf pool, or race down thrilling slides like Blizzard Beach’s Summit Plummet, these parks are a fun (and often overlooked) addition to your Disney vacation.
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, don’t forget that you get free water park admission on your check-in day! This is a huge perk that’s perfect for making the most of your arrival without needing a full park ticket.

August in Disney World Prices
August in Disney World is unique when it comes to pricing, because the first half of the month is vastly different from the second half. The beginning of the month is still part of the summer travel season, so you’ll see slightly higher rates on tickets and hotels. But as schools start back up, prices start to drop, making the end of August one of the most affordable times of the year to visit. Let’s dig a little deeper into what that means for hotel and park ticket ticket costs.
August 2026 Park Ticket Prices
Park ticket prices in August tend to follow the crowd trends, starting slightly higher at the beginning of the month and then dropping as the month goes on. If you’re planning a trip, you’ll notice tickets are most expensive during the first week of August but become some of the most budget-friendly of the year by the end of the month.
Here’s how much you can expect to pay for a park ticket in August:
- Magic Kingdom: $149-$184
- EPCOT: $144-$179

August 2026 Disney World Resort Hotel Prices
Hotel rates in August follow the same trend as park tickets—higher at the start of the month and lower at the end. If you’re traveling later in August, you’ll find some of the year’s best deals across all resort tiers.
Here’s an overview of the average price ranges for Disney World hotels in August 2026:
- Value Resorts: $180–$300 per night
- Moderate Resorts: $300–$400 per night
