What is Fantasyland at Disney World?

Fantasyland is an original land from Magic Kingdom’s 1971 opening. Part of Walt’s vision was that guests could walk through Cinderella Castle and step into the largest land at Magic Kingdom. In 2012, Disney began a slow rollout of a Fantasyland expansion, which was completed in 2014, adding an entirely new area and acquiring Mickey’s Toontown, which it rethemed as Storybook Circus. 

Fantasyland can be accessed many ways: through the Castle Hub, through Tomorrowland from the right side of the park, or through Liberty Square on the left side of the park. 

Fantasyland Atmosphere

Stepping into Fantasyland puts guests’ favorite stories front and center, from Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid to Rapunzel and Cinderella. Imagineers did a good job of preserving the nostalgic charm of old-time fantasies while incorporating Disney IP that guests know and love. 

There are three distinct areas of Fantasyland: Original Fantasyland, New Fantasyland, and Storybook Circus. 

Across the three sections of the land, medieval courtyards, rustic villages, enchanted forests, and vintage circuses are just a few of the impeccably themed storybook settings.

Fantasyland is home to 11 of Magic Kingdom’s attractions – the most of any land within the theme park. These attractions put guests in the heart of their favorite Disney animated films.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Get ready to travel through the mines of the Seven Dwarfs on this family roller coaster. Guests board a mine cart and twist through scenes of the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs film. Wait times tend to be consistently high throughout the day; however, the queue offers interactive entertainment for littles. 

Peter Pan’s Flight 

• Height Requirement: Any Height
• Ride Type: Slow Ride

Peter Pan’s Flight is a classic ride that takes you on a flight through Neverland. Guests board a pirate ship and fly in the air, following Peter Pan on his adventures, and maybe even encountering Captain Hook. This attraction rivals Tron: Lightcycle/Run for the longest wait time in the park, so head here first thing in the morning, right before closing, or purchase a Lightning Lane Multipass.

One of Walt’s original opening-day attractions, this gentle boat ride sails from scene to scene celebrating cultures from around the globe. And yes, the song will be stuck in your head by the time you exit!

Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid

Hop in a clamshell and dive into popular scenes from The Little Mermaid with Scuttle. Dance along to the classic songs like Under the Sea while escaping from the Florida heat, as this ride rarely has high wait times. 

Mad Tea Party

• Height Requirement: Any Height
• Ride Type: Spinning Ride

Step into the Mad Hatter’s tea cup and spin around, and around, and around, just like the scenes from Alice in Wonderland! This ride is fun for the whole family; however, those who get dizzy easily may want to sit this one out. 

Prince Charming Regal Carrousel

• Ride Type: Slow Spinning Ride

Sitting right in the center of Fantasyland, this popular carousel has been turning for over a century. Take a ride on one of the many horses to a medley of beloved Disney tunes.

The Barnstormer

• Height Requirement: 35” (89 cm)
• Ride Type: Small Coaster

The Barnstormer is the perfect first roller coaster for small children! Climb into the great Goofini’s airplane and fly through Storybook Circus on this small coaster that lasts barely one minute. Since there are no loops, big drops, or extreme speeds, this is a great introductory coaster. 

Dumbo the Flying Elephant

• Height Requirement: Any Height
• Ride Type: Slow Spinning Ride

Another classic Disney ride and one of Walt’s original ideas, Dumbo the Flying Elephant is a must-do flight on many Disney fans’ to-do list. Guests board an elephant and fly around with spectacular views of Fantasyland and beyond.

Enchanted Tales with Belle 

• Height Requirement: Any Height
• Ride Type: Live Show with Characters

This 20-minute interactive experience transports guests into the Beauty and the Beast story we all know and love. Young children will love the experience, as well as Beauty and the Beast fans of all ages. Guests even get to play a part in the story and meet Belle herself! 

Enchanted Tales with Belle does have limited hours throughout the day, so be sure to check the My Disney Experience app if this is a priority. 

Mickey’s PhilharMagic

• Ride Type: 3D Show

One of my personal favorite spots to escape the heat in Fantasyland is Mickey’s PhilharMagic! Guests don 3D glasses to become immersed in the world of Disney characters, movies, and classic songs. There might even be a few scents and splashes involved – you don’t want to miss this. 

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

• Height Requirement: Any Height
• Ride Type: Slow Ride

Climb into a giant honey pot and travel through the Hundred Acre Wood with Pooh and his friends, following their adventures along the way. This fun, slow-moving ride offers a bit more than most ride vehicles and attracts longer wait times during the day. However, the queue features interactive areas for small children to help pass the time.

Not only does Disney World’s Fantasyland offer the most attractions in Magic Kingdom, but there’s no shortage of food, drink, and snack options either!

Table Service Restaurants

Cinderella’s Royal Table

Did you know you can dine INSIDE the Cinderella Castle?! This character dining experience is a one-of-a-kind dream for fairytale lovers. Guests can dine with Cinderella and her princess friends for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 

For breakfast, guests will enjoy an assorted breakfast tray, then choose one entree from options such as avocado toast, quiche, or caramel apple French toast. For lunch and dinner, guests will have the choice of one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert. Options include soup and salad, lamb chops, fish, or beef, with kids’ options such as mac and cheese or chicken strips.

Reservations are highly recommended through the My Disney Experience app. 

Be Our Guest Restaurant 

For lunch and dinner, guests can dine inside Beast’s castle, waltz through the ballroom, see the enchanted rose in the West Wing, and even explore the Rose Gallery. While this isn’t an official character dining experience, guests will sometimes spot The Beast walking around the restaurant. 

Be Our Guest serves a prix fixe menu, meaning guests may choose one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert. Options heavily lean into French cuisine, including French onion soup, escargot, beef bourguignon, roast chicken, and steak frites, to name a few.

Quick Service Restaurants

Gaston’s Tavern 

Gaston’s Tavern operates on limited hours throughout the day. However, this is my must-do snack spot at Magic Kingdom. Guests can step into Gaston’s Tavern and even sit on his throne!

The warm cinnamon roll is large enough to share, and Lefou’s Brew (a.k.a. frozen apple juice with marshmallow and fruit cold foam) is a must on a hot summer day. 

The Friar Nook

Based on the Disney classic film Robin Hood, Friar Nook serves up breakfast (a rarity in theme parks!), lunch, and dinner. However, the location closes earlier than Magic Kingdom. 

For breakfast, guests can grab a quick breakfast sandwich, while lunch and dinner offer hot dogs and tater tot bowls. 

Cheshire Cafe

This snack stand, located next to the Mad Tea Party, offers a selection of treats, including pretzels and chocolate croissants, as well as coffee, tea, and other refreshments. 

Storybook Treats

Storybook Treats is a dessert stand offering ice cream cones, sundaes, floats, soft serve, and beverages.

Keep an eye out for the rotating selection of princess-themed cones; they’re a guest favorite and photo-worthy!

Pinocchio Village Haus

As the only full-service quick dining location in Fantasyland with air conditioning, Pinocchio Village Haus is a popular spot. Open for lunch and dinner, this Italian eatery serves flatbreads, salads, breadsticks, and more. 

Prince Eric’s Village Market

This grab-and-go stand is located across from Ariel’s Grotto and operates on limited hours. Guests can grab a famous Disney turkey leg, pretzels, fruit, and slushies. 

There is no seating around the market; however, its menu features great options for eating while waiting in line for the next attraction. 

Things to Do in Fantasyland

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

For children ages 3-12, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Magic Kingdom can transform them into royalty! Kids can become their favorite princess or a mighty knight, with multiple makeover packages available. The Fairy Godmothers and their apprentices dazzle and pamper the children, turning fairytales into a reality with the princess or knight outfit of their choice!

Packages range anywhere from $19.99 to $450 plus tax as of 2026. Reservations are required, and this is a very popular magical extra, so be sure to reserve early.

Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire

Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire is a stage show that takes place at Cinderella Castle multiple times throughout the day. 

This 20-minute show features Mickey and friends alongside characters from Tangled, Frozen, and The Princess and the Frog.

Explore Architecture 

Slowing down and just exploring Fantasyland may sound completely counterintuitive, especially since I’ve said how many things there are to do here. Though, I’d argue that really immersing ourselves in the immaculate work of Disney Imagineers is an attraction in itself!

Take time to explore the mosaics in Cinderella Castle, the Cinderella Wishing Well, the Cinderella Fountain, and the ever-popular Sword in the Stone outside Prince Charming Regal Carrousel.

Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station

Kids – or kids at heart – can cool off in this Dumbo-themed splash pad in the center of Storybook Circus. Little ones can splash around with familiar circus animals like monkeys, elephants, and camels. Plus, there are water sprayers for those who get in their way.

Insider Tips for Visiting Fantasyland at Disney World

As someone who’s spent years visiting Fantasyland, here are a few tips that will make your time even more magical. 

• Head to Fantasyland early in the morning. Most guests start on the left or right side of the park – not many head straight toward the middle
• The Tangled bathroom area next to “it’s a small world” is a great photo op, with restrooms that are usually clean (but busy)
• Most rides in Fantasyland, except for Mine Train and Peter Pan’s Flight, usually have low wait times – prioritizing is key
• The walkway from TRON Lightcycle/Run into Fantasyland is less busy than passing the Tomorrowland Speedway
• Aurora’s dress is on display in the Castle Couture shop; if you look closely, you might find some magic
• Though it’s not a scheduled appearance, you’ll sometimes find Alice and the Mad Hatter greeting guests by Mad Tea Party
• Use Lightning Lane Multipass for Peter Pan’s Flight and the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh if they are important to you
• Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is an Individual Lightning Lane option; purchase this if you don’t want to wait an hour or more
