Thinking about staying at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, but not sure if it’s right for you? This Disney Value Resort is one of the largest and most popular places to stay in Walt Disney World and there are a few reasons why! We just spent two nights at this property and have all the details on what it’s like staying at one of Disney World’s cheapest resorts including our favorite parts, and our not-so-favorite parts. So, follow along for our Disney’s All Star Movies Resort review!
The Rooms
All of the rooms at Disney’s All-Star Movies sleep up to four guests. Our room featured two queen-sized beds. And, thanks to the recent renovation of the resort, the room is a bit more functional than it used to be with one of the beds converting to a table with chairs during the day. We found that this Murphy-style bed was a much-welcome change from the previous style of rooms. It really came in handy with our toddler, as it gave him an area to play while we still had space to move around.
Our beds were comfortable, but there’s no doubt that these rooms are some of the smallest in Disney World. Four adults could get around in the room just fine and it would be comfortable for sleeping arrangements, but may find that the bathroom space is tight.
Now, we didn’t find that the rooms were anything all that special. Aside from a few pieces of wall art, there isn’t much theming to them at all. But, for a quick weekend getaway, the lower price point made up for any sacrifices when it comes to theming. However, if you are looking for a more themed or immersive room, you may want to look elsewhere.
Outside Noise
We had no noise issues during our stay, but we tend to think this is just the luck of the draw. Since all Value Resorts have exterior doors and hallways, exterior noise is always a possibility depending on what may be happening outside, the time of day, and your neighbors. You are more likely to hear noise early in the morning before park opening as people leave their rooms, as well as at the end of the day after the park closes when guests are heading back.
All-Star Resorts are usually home to many group trips, especially in the months of youth cheer and baseball competitions that are held at ESPN Wide World of Sports just around the corner from the resort. During these times, you can usually expect a noisier resort.
Theming
We know that Disney was created for all ages, but in many ways, Value Resorts are specifically made with a kid-centric approach. We stayed in the Toy Story section of All-Star Movies, surrounded by larger-than-life, giant replicas of Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Rex, Bo Peep, and more. Our toddler had a blast taking pictures with all the characters and roaming the grounds to see who else he could find.
Other sections of this resort include Love Bug, Fantasia, Mighty Ducks, and 101 Dalmatian. Are the grounds of somewhere like Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa or Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort beautiful? Absolutely they are! But All-Star Movies really hone in on the Disney magic for the kids, putting them in the stories that they know and love.
Amenities
Depending on what amenities you’re looking for, you might be disappointed when you stay at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort. There are fewer dining options, the pools do not have slides or splash and play areas for kids, and there aren’t any extra activities hosted by Cast Members.
Since our main focus for this stay was going to the theme parks, this did not bother us at all. We just didn’t spend that much time at the hotel! However, for families looking to forgo park tickets and spend time at the resort on certain days of their trip, this could be a negative.
Resort Dining
As we’ve mentioned, dining options at Disney Value Resorts are much more limited compared to the other resort categories. And, All-Star Movies is no different.
World Premiere Food Court
Since value resorts only offer one quick service food court-style dining option, it becomes your one-stop shop for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. And, at All-Star Movies, World Premiere Food Court offers a variety of options for all three meals. The one nice part about the food court style is that they do offer a greater variety of foods for all the meals. There are multiple different food stations with dishes ranging from pizza, to burgers, to bowls, and more.
We only ate breakfast at the resort during this trip, but the food court is also open for lunch and dinner.
For breakfast we ordered a Loaded Totcho Bowl. This is a play on a hash brown bowl including tater tots, eggs, cheese, bacon, and a sausage gravy. This was a good breakfast dish, and a nice alternative to your standard quick service breakfasts of waffles, bounty platters, or breakfast sandwiches.
We also ordered the Vanilla Pancakes. These are a good option for those looking for a sweet breakfast option that is (dare we say) better than the sometimes-dry beloved Mickey waffles.
Silver Screen Spirits Pool Bar
Aside from the food court, there is also a pool bar at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort. Silver Screen Spirits Pool Bar offers a variety of beers, wines, and specialty cocktails along with a full bar.
This is a very basic pool bar, offering a very small selection of pre-made sandwiches and salads. So, not necessarily a spot you would want to choose for a full meal. There are a few small TVs at this bar, but you have to be sitting on one of the bar stools to see them. This was a bummer for us, and we wished the design of the bar was a bit better. Being able to walk around and see some of the games that were on while our toddler played in nearby areas would have been nice.
Transportation
The transportation situation for our stay at All-Star Movies was pleasantly surprising. In the past, all three All-Star Resorts would share buses most of the time. This made for very full buses and fairly long wait times. However, this was not at all the case for our stay!
We used the free Disney bus transportation a lot for this trip since we were spending much of the time at the parks or dining at other resorts, and we never had any problems. Buses were prompt at both the resort and the theme parks. And, we never shared a bus with any of the other All-Star Resorts.
Pricing
With pricing being the first thing most guests look at when trying to find the right Disney Resort, all three All-Star resorts are going to jump out as being the most affordable. Standard room rates at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort range from roughly $150-$250+ per night, depending on the time of year. If Disney is running resort discount offers, sometimes you can book a standard room closer to $100 per night.
This is our favorite reason to stay here. If we are looking for a quick getaway or know we will be spending most of our time in the theme parks, we immediately look at an All-Star Resort for availability.
Guests staying at All-Star Movies get access to almost all the same perks as guests staying at Deluxe Resorts including things like extra time in the parks, free transportation, and the ability to pre-book Disney’s Lightning Lanes up to 7 days before your check-in date. So, for a “no frills” stay, this is a great budget-friendly option that will still keep the Disney magic alive.
Overall Disney’s All Star Movies Resort Review
We highly enjoy our time at All-Star Movies anytime we stay, but we do go in with the mindset that we probably won’t spend much time there. This is our go-to resort for a quick trip, a park-filled stay, or a last-minute grab. After all, any Disney Resort is better than being at home (in our opinion, at least!).
While the theme of this resort is very kid-friendly, adults can find positives in not only the price, but quality of food, comfortable beds, and seemingly quick bus transportation. This is also a great resort for families on a budget, especially those with young children.
However, if you’re looking for a more spacious room to fit four adults for a longer stay, you may want to look elsewhere. The rooms can get tight!
