About Disney’s All-Star Sports
Overview
- Hotel Category: Value Resort
- Price: $117-$275 per night average
- Resort Area: Animal Kingdom Resort Area
Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is one of five value resorts and a sister resort to Disney’s All-Star Movies and Disney’s All-Star Music. Though it is one of the cheapest resorts on the property, that doesn’t mean you should automatically count it out. With over 1,900 rooms, All-Star Sports is one of the busiest resorts on the property.
Atmosphere & Theming
Sports fans can rejoice in the over-the-top theming at Disney’s All-Star Sports. All buildings are themed to different sporting events and you can even find some of your favorite characters playing along. You won’t forget you’re at Disney at this resort, that’s for sure!
The resort often houses guests in town for sporting events at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports, resulting in the resort being loud and crowded at times.
All buildings have exterior doors and are set up motel-style.
Dining Options
Two dining options are available for guests staying at this resort, both being quick-service dining options including:
- End Zone Food Court
- Grandstand Spirits Pool Bar
Amenities & Recreation
Since All-Star Sports is a value resort, you won’t find quite as many amenities here as you may at some other resorts at Walt Disney World. Here is a list of some of the current recreation offerings for guests:
- Surfboard Bay Pool
- Grand Slam Pool
- Movies Under the Stars
- Touchdown Campfire
- Playground
- Game Point Arcade
- Sport Goofy Gifts and Sundries
Transportation Options
The only complimentary Disney transportation offered at All-Star Sports is the Disney bus system. Rideshares and Minnie Vans are available at an additional cost.
Our Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Review
I spent a weekend in a standard room at Disney’s All-Star Sports in the Home Run Hotel section. Traveling with my husband and 2-year-old son, we split our time between the resort and the theme parks. Let’s break down the pros and cons of this resort.
The Room
Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort rooms consist of two queen beds, sleeping up to four adults. While one of the beds is a traditional queen bed, the other is actually a Murphy bed. When the bed is up, there is a decent-sized table with two chairs. A sliding door separates the bathroom, giving way to an open area with a sink to get ready, as well as a closed-off shower and toilet.
All three All-Star Resort properties have undergone recent room renovations, and this is a much-needed change from the previous style of rooms. Having the second bed up during the day was a welcomed feature with a toddler, giving him an area to play while still having space for us to move around.
However, guests looking for uniquely themed rooms won’t find them here at Disney’s All-Star Sports. Though the resort grounds are heavily themed (we’ll get to that later), the rooms are pretty bare bones. Apart from a picture of classic Disney characters on the wall, guests will find white walls and dark-toned furniture.
These rooms are the smallest on the property, but they are a good value overall. As two adults and a toddler, we never felt cramped while we were in the room. For a small family with young children, plenty of space is available to rest your head. However, would four adults for a week’s stay be comfortable in this room? Probably not.
Noise
If noise or crowds are something that you are concerned about, be sure to check the ESPN Wide World of Sports calendar when planning trip dates. Though we didn’t have any noise issues during this stay, high school tournaments and world cheer competitions held at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports house all attendees at All-Star Resorts. This can create excess outdoor noise.
Food and Drinks
All meals at All-Star Sports are offered at the End Zone Food Court located in Stadium Hall. The food court is full of quick options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is no table service, signature dining, or character dining at All-Star Sports. We opted to eat breakfast at End Zone Food Court and eat dinner elsewhere, though the variety of dinner options is much more substantial at All-Star Resorts than there are at other resorts’ quick service dining options.
For breakfast we enjoyed the Bounty Platter, a variety of breakfast staples, the Loaded Totcho Bowl, and the Plant-Based Frittata. Breakfast options here are pretty standard. Will it be your favorite breakfast at Disney World? Not at all. But, the quality is good enough to enjoy and get some fuel before a long park day. If you are a coffee connoisseur, I do suggest opting for one of the specialty coffee options offered at the food court bays, as the coffee offered at the beverage stations is pretty weak and bland.
Outside the gates of the Surfboard Bay Pool is Grandstand Spirits Pool Bar. Opening at 12PM daily, this bar offers the standard Disney pool bar menu including beers, wines, frozen daiquiris, and classic cocktails. A full bar is offered for guests who want to enjoy something not on the menu, as well as some small pool snacks such as chips or a pretzel.
The Bourbon Breeze is our go-to cocktail, while the Strawberry Daiquiri is one of my frozen favorites.
Amenities & Recreation
All-Star Sports recreation and resort amenities are the low point of this resort. Though there are plenty of offerings, they don’t compare to the likes of moderate or deluxe resort dining and amenities.
When we were taking advantage of the resort amenities, you could find us at the Surfboard Bay Pool. Being the main pool on the property, this is where all poolside activities take place.
We participated in poolside trivia, and my son participated in kids’ pool games such as relays. The Cast Members were fantastic in keeping everyone entertained, and there were plenty of loungers for guests to find a chair.
Though there is a smaller pool at the resort, the Grand Slam Pool, we didn’t spend any time here because no activities or events are held at this pool.
We also checked out the Game Point Arcade, located within Stadium Hall. The arcade holds a wide variety of games for all ages and seemed larger than the arcades at any deluxe resort. On a rainy or excruciatingly hot day, this is the place to be. The games do cost extra, though we thought the game points were reasonably priced.
Transportation
The transportation situation for our stay at All-Star Sports was surprisingly great. Since buses are the only mode of complimentary Disney transportation offered at this resort, All-Star Resorts tends to get a bad rap regarding ease of transportation.
We used buses to both Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios on this trip, and they were prompt at both the resort and the theme parks. Though we did not attempt to board the bus during any rope drop time periods, I’m confident in saying that I doubt that it would have been much different than our experience besides a fuller bus.
We waited no more than 10 minutes each time and used the bus times feature on the My Disney Experience App to help us gauge the times to and from the parks to plan our day.
Overall Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Review
Disney’s All-Star Sports shines in what it’s known for – a value. Being budget-friendly is important to many Walt Disney World guests, including us! While this isn’t a resort with glitz and glamour, it’s still a great option for guests looking to cut costs while enjoying the theme parks.
Though you may have to temper your expectations, there are plenty of offerings to keep everyone entertained. I would recommend Disney’s All-Star Sports to anyone considering staying here, and plan to return many times in the future.
