Did you know that you can go camping at Disney World? It’s true! Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is one of the largest and most unique places to stay at Walt Disney World. From a large selection of campsites and cabins to a dinner show, horseback riding, and more, here’s our complete guide to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort!
About Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is genuinely one of a kind. This rustic, woodsy oasis is one of the oldest resorts on property, having opened in 1971 just one month after Magic Kingdom. Settled alongside Bay Lake, Fort Wilderness connects campers to unique, laid-back outdoor adventures while still being only minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the Disney Parks we all know and love.
Unlike other Disney Resort hotels that are categorized into Value, Moderate, and Deluxe Resorts, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground stands on its own. Disney officially categorizes the campgrounds portion of the resort as simply “Campgrounds,” and the cabins have recently been bumped up to the Disney Vacation Club Resort category, offering room sizes and amenities that more closely align with Deluxe Resorts.

The resort has three main areas: Outpost, Meadows, and Settlement. Located at the front of the resort, the Outpost houses the Disney bus transportation, the overflow parking lot, and the check-in building. In the middle of the resort, Meadows is the central hub for entertainment, while the Settlement, situated within the back of the resort, houses most dining options.
Over 409 newly renovated air-conditioned cabins and 799 campsites are situated throughout over 700 acres of pine trees and wood reserves. One of the most significant perks for travelers heading to Fort Wilderness is how pet-friendly the resort is!

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Accommodations
Fort Wilderness Resort guests have two main accommodation options to choose from: one of the air-conditioned Wilderness Cabins or a campsite where you can pitch a tent/RV camp.
While most Disney resorts have building numbers or themed sections within the resort for its accommodations, Fort Wilderness has 28 loops throughout the resort. Each loop has a different wilderness-themed name, with seven loops housing cabins and twenty-one loops featuring different-sized campsites.
Comfort Stations are placed within each loop, with some loops having multiple comfort stations. These are where you can find restrooms, showers, and a laundry facility. Each comfort station is exceptionally clean and has multiple restroom stalls, shower stalls, and an area to prepare for the day.

Wilderness Cabins
There are currently 409 Wilderness Cabins throughout Disney’s Fort Wilderness. In 2024, Disney renovated all of the cabins and modernized them with new furniture, decorations, and appliances. They are now considered Disney Vacation Club properties, meaning that you can become a Disney Vacation Club member with this as your home resort by buying in now, or choose to use your Disney Vacation Club points to stay here. Cash options are also available for non-members.

Each wilderness cabin is the same and sleeps up to 6 guests. Designed similar to one-bedroom suites, each cabin has one bedroom featuring a queen bed and bunk bed, a separate bathroom, and a kitchen and living combination area. The new cabins feature a queen-size Murphy bed in the living area and the fully equipped kitchen contains a fridge, freezer, stovetop, oven, microwave, and sink. You are provided with all utensils, pots, pans, plates, etc.
A deck featuring a picnic table and outdoor lights surrounds the cabin’s exterior, leading up to the front door. Additionally, each cabin has a charcoal grill for guests to enjoy. Each also features a paved parking area that is large enough for one vehicle, allowing you to park your vehicle right at their site.
Campsites
In addition to Wilderness Cabins, guests can bring their tent, RV, or camper to Fort Wilderness or rent one from a Disney-approved third-party vendor. Each campsite contains a charcoal grill, a picnic table, resort Wi-Fi, and water and electricity hookups. Campsites can hold up to eight guests on each site reservation.

Paying homage to its Wilderness theme, lunch and dinner offer a barbeque-themed menu featuring ribs and fried chicken, with staples like pizza, burgers, and salads also available. Ample indoor seating and a small amount of outdoor picnic tables are available.

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue
The most popular dining experience at Fort Wilderness is the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. This table service dinner theater show runs three times a night and offers all-you-can-eat barbecue, salads, cornbread, and desserts. Beer, wine, sangria, and non-alcoholic beverages are also included.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Amenities & Recreation
Fort Wilderness offers some of Walt Disney World’s most unique recreational activities and amenities! In addition to standard resort amenities and recreation such as pools, arcades, and shopping, Fort Wilderness allows guests to embrace the wilderness with its one-of-a-kind offerings.
Pools
Fort Wilderness has two pools: Meadows Swimmin’ Pool and Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool.
Meadows Swimmin’ Pool is the main pool in the Meadows Recreation area, featuring a 67 ft water slide, a children’s aquatic play area, and a whirlpool spa. Additionally, this is where the activities staff hold events like trivia and games daily. Outside the pool gates are pool tables, ping pong tables, shuffleboard, and life-size chess. Full-size tennis courts are also available for free outside the Meadows pool, with covered pavilions and charcoal grills.
Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool is located in the wilderness cabin section of the resort. This leisure pool has longer hours and a whirlpool spa, but no slides or activities.
Arcades & Sports
Fort Wilderness has two arcades: Davey Crockett’s Wilderness Arcade at Pioneer Hall and Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Arcade in the Meadows Recreation Area. Basketball courts, tetherball courts, and sand volleyball nets are located around the resort in various loops. Additionally, jogging trails line the wilderness trees for scenic views. Four playgrounds are placed around Fort Wilderness, with the largest one outside Pioneer Hall.

Shopping
Two options are available for all shopping needs: Meadows Trading Post and Settlement Trading Post. Meadows Trading Post offers longer hours and sells Disney merchandise, food items to cook at your campsite, and staples like eggs and milk. Sundries are also sold here, as are select camper/RV items for emergencies, such as hoses and repair kits. Settlement Trading Post offers many of the same items but on a smaller scale.

Clementine Beach
Clementine Beach is a sandy lakeside oasis where guests can relax in the sand while watching boats around Bay Lake. Tetherball courts, lounge chairs, and tables are also on the beach. At night, the beach fills with guests as the Magic Kingdom fireworks spectacular, Happily Ever After, can be seen from the beach, with music piped into the speakers for total entertainment. Additionally, the Electrical Water Pageant is a nightly parade on Bay Lake following the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long
While nearly all Walt Disney World resorts have some type of Movie Under the Stars and nightly campfire, Fort Wilderness’s version has a touch of extra magic. Chip ‘N’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long is a nightly event held at the outdoor movie theater in the Meadows Recreation Area. Starting one hour before the scheduled movie time, a family-fun sing-a-long is held featuring your favorite campfire tunes and an appearance from Chip and Dale! Two campfires are available to guests and are lit through most of the movie. However, unlike other resort campfires, sticks and marshmallows are not provided. The Chuck Wagon on-site sells s’more kits or you can grab a kit at Meadows Trading Post.

Fort Wilderness Archery Experience
For $49 per person, guests 7 and up can practice their archery skills at the Fort Wilderness Archery Experience. This 75-minute experience is offered twice daily. We recommend booking your spot in advance, but walk-ups are welcome based on availability.
Tri-Circle-D Ranch
Horse lovers can head back to the Settlement area to Tri-Circle-D Ranch, a stunning newly built horse barn housing Cinderella’s ponies and horses that walk Main Street, U.S.A. Pony rides are available for children ages 3 and up on a walk-up basis for $10 per child.
The Trail Blaze Corral is the horse barn area located at Fort Wilderness’s main entrance, where horseback riding lessons are conducted for a fee, depending on the ride. Horse-drawn carriage rides are available daily, with a holiday sleigh ride available during the Christmas season.
Recreation Rentals
The Bike Barn is home to many recreation rentals, open from 9AM to 5PM daily (note: hours are subject to change). Canoe and kayak rentals are available for ages 12 and up for $15 per person per hour along the meadow and pine tree-lined waterways. Fishing equipment, including bait, is available for purchase if you choose not to bring your own. And, bicycle rentals are available per hour or daily. The L&B Gem Mining Experience is also available for purchase, with three different mining experiences available at various price points.

If you prefer a more guided experience through the Wilderness Back Trail Adventure, a two-hour Segway Tour following the paths and nature trails of Fort Wilderness is available for $90 per person. Just note that guests must be at least 16 years old.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Transportation Options
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground offers two free transportation options for guests depending on where you’re going. This includes:

An internal bus system runs every 10 to 15 minutes from 6:30AM up to two hours after the last theme park closes. There are three bus routes throughout the resort: Orange, Purple, and Yellow. Each bus route make stops at both the Outpost and the Settlement, then specific stops at loop bus stations. The yellow line stops at loops 100-500 and 1400-1900. The orange line services all wilderness cabin loops and loops 600-1300. The purple line services loops 2000 and 2100.
