Disney Cruise Line has garnered a reputation for being “designed with families in mind,” and for good reason! It is one of the most family-friendly cruise lines in the industry. And, even if you are an experienced cruiser, you’ll likely notice a difference when you sail with Disney.
So, if you’re wondering if a Disney cruise is right for your next family vacation, we’re bringing you a look at all the family-friendly amenities, what ship is best for you, the cost, and more!

Disney’s Family-Friendly Approach
There are currently six Disney Cruise Line ships at sea, including:
- Disney Magic
- Disney Wonder
- Disney Dream
- Disney Fantasy
- Disney Wish
- Disney Treasure
And, more are coming soon, with the Disney Destiny setting sail on its maiden voyage in November 2025 and the Disney Adventure setting sail on its maiden voyage shortly after in December 2025.

While Disney Cruise Line is fun for all ages, and you’ll find plenty of adults-only cruisers onboard, at its core, the Disney cruise ships were developed with families as the priority. On each ship, you’ll find that the layout, pools, food, and activities are made to entertain the youngest travelers to the oldest. And, it’s all done with the extra Disney touch!
Room Accommodations for Families
Not only does Disney Cruise Line have some of the most spacious staterooms at sea, but their configurations also entice families as well. Aside from interior staterooms, all staterooms have the Disney signature “split bathroom.” This gives you TWO separate bathrooms, with one housing a sink, vanity, and shower or tub, and the other houses a sink, vanity, and toilet. This allows guests to get multiple people ready at one time, and is very helpful when one child has to use the bathroom while the other might be in the shower.
Additionally, there is a select category of staterooms onboard that sleep up to five guests, making it easy for larger families to find a room that fits their needs. Plus, guests with small children can request pack-and-play cribs, bed rails, diaper genies, and even bottle warmers for the duration of the sailing (subject to availability).

Onboard Activities & Entertainment for Families
There is no shortage of onboard activities and entertainment for people of all ages, and especially the kids!
Kids’ Clubs
When you think of a family Disney cruise, your first thought is probably the state-of-the-art kids’ clubs. The activities housed on each ship in the kids’ clubs are enough to even make some adults jealous that they can’t attend!
Each ship has clubs for all age groups, starting with the “it’s a small world” Nursery for the smallest cruisers, ages 6 months to three years old. While the rest of the kids’ clubs are free, the nursery is an additional charge since it is more of a straightforward babysitting service. The nursery offers a play area, cribs and beds for sleeping, and trained crew members who can change diapers, feed bottles, and more!

The Oceaneers Club and Lab is the next step up and is available to three- to ten-year-olds. In the lab, kids can immerse themselves in the worlds of Toy Story, Marvel, Star Wars, Peter Pan, Tangled, and Frozen (just to name a few!). Design roller coasters, do crafts, and even design their own animation series in this area entirely dedicated to fun for kids!

Cruisers ages eleven to fourteen can make their way to Edge, a club designed for tweens, to have a taste of freedom and fun! Here you’ll find high definition TVs, video games, board games, and daily guided activities with fellow cruisers and staff for hours of fun!

And, lastly, there is Vibe. Vibe allows guests ages fifteen to seventeen to access an exclusive place they can call their own. Vibe features movies, video games, activities, and more. Some ships even have a dedicated pool deck for Vibe!
Daily Activities for Families
When you check the daily navigator on the Disney Cruise app on your phone, there will always be something to experience for families! You’ll find plenty of family-friendly activities, including Disney trivia, crafts, karaoke, movies on the pool deck and in the movie theater, water slides, scavenger hunts, and character meet-and-greets!
When it comes to character meet-and-greets, all ships will have times to meet the Fab Five (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy). These are the only characters that you’re guaranteed to meet onboard any Disney cruise ship; however, other character meet-and-greets are subject to which ship you’re on. You can usually expect to meet at least a few of the Disney Princesses as well.

Additionally, you’ll find towel art classes, cooking classes, sports competitions, and even Jack Jack’s Diaper Dash, a baby crawling competition that everyone won’t want to miss!
All ships have interactive games such as ping pong, foosball, and basketball, while others have incorporated additional games like corn hole, obstacle courses, and mini golf.
There are also plenty of pools to play and relax in on the top deck. And Disney Cruise Line even caters to its youngest guests by having a swim diaper-allowed splash pad on every ship (which not all cruise lines offer!). Coast Guard regulations do not allow children in swim diapers in pools on any cruise line, so this is a huge perk for families with small children. Best of all, all the splash pads are covered from the sun!

Evening Activities for Families
In the evenings, some of the daytime activities, such as trivia and karaoke, are still going on, but there is more! Broadway-style theater shows are one of Disney’s most significant selling points, and they don’t disappoint!
These shows are well-suited for families, as they are well-known shows, with many being adaptations of your favorite Disney movies! Between the six ships, you’ll find shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Moana, and Tangled! These shows typically only run for about an hour, perfectly fitting the timeframes of young attention spans.
Additional evening entertainment includes live music, magicians, comedy shows, themed buffets, movies under the stars, deck parties, and late-night events.

Pirate Night
Everyone loves Pirate Night on a Disney Cruise! Once per sailing (regardless of the ship you’re on), the entire ship converts to a pirate theme, even bringing some of your favorite pirates along, such as Captain Hook and Jack Sparrow.
Guests take advantage of pirate night, some even dressing in full pirate gear to play a part in the story. And, the dining rooms and menu even take on a pirate theme.
For entertainment on these nights, there is pirate trivia, pirate crafts, special meet-and-greets, and even a pirate deck party you won’t want to miss. In addition, Disney provides the only fireworks at sea on Pirate Night. Watch from the upper decks as live music plays and fireworks light up the sky for a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Castaway Cay and Lighthouse Pointe
Disney’s two private islands, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, offer children and adults the best of both worlds.
On each island, there are adults-only dedicated spaces, but family beaches and play areas are the focal point here. Both islands have splash pads for kids, water slides, buffets, character meet-and-greets, shopping, and more!
Not only that, but Disney Cruise Line takes their kids’ clubs to the beach! Kids can play and explore with their friends and staff counselors in their own element while the adults relax alone. However, nursery services are not available on the islands.

Dining
Dining is a focal point of Disney Cruise Line, and it sets itself apart from other mainstream cruise lines with its rotational dining feature. Instead of having one or two un-themed, complimentary dining rooms that guests can attend for dinner nightly, Disney rotates guests through three themed restaurants throughout their sailing.
Not only do guests rotate between the restaurants, but so does their wait staff! This gives guests an ultra-personalized experience. The wait staff gets to know you, your family, your drink order, and can even have your child’s favorite meal ready for them when they arrive! Plus, for even the smallest cruisers, the dining staff goes above and beyond. The wait staff will puree foods for those who may not be old enough for solids yet, and even cut up food for the kids to give parents a little break!
In addition to the help of the wait staff, the entertainment during dinner is sure to keep families entertained. The exact theme of entertainment will vary from ship to ship, but some things you’ll find during dinner are characters, live music, interactive screens, interactive games, and more!

What is the Best Age for a Disney Cruise?
While there is something for cruisers of all ages onboard, it’s reasonable to ask —Is there a best age to sail on a Disney cruise?
Disney Cruise Line’s kids’ clubs are exceptional, so the best age for families to sail with Disney would be sometime during the club’s age range. Ideally, I would say ages 3-12 would be best, as kids can experience the Oceaneers Club and take in the Disney magic.
However, don’t let that deter you if you and your family are interested in sailing with Disney. Personally, I’ve taken our infants and grandparents on Disney Cruise Line, and they have all had nothing but fantastic experiences!

Best Disney Cruise Line Ship for Families
All six Disney ships will fit families well — it is Disney after all! They all have state-of-the-art kids’ clubs, infant nurseries, family-friendly dining, and more. However, there may be some aspects of certain ships that might interest your family more than others.
For example, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are the oldest of the fleet, and while they are pristine for their age, they are the smallest. The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are larger than the Magic and Wonder, thus providing more space for activity and more entertainment options.
These four ships have a bit of an old-school cruising level of elegance and less in-your-face Disney theming. Incidentally, this is where the biggest change in the Disney Cruise Line fleet plays a big factor in answering the question of which ship is best for you and your family.
The Disney Wish and Disney Treasure take an entirely new approach for Disney Cruise Line. While the offerings are similar to other Disney cruise ships, the designs, common spaces, and overall feel drastically differ. If your family is full of Star Wars and Marvel fans, the Disney Wish might be best for you. If you are a Disney Pixar’s Coco-loving family, the Disney Treasure has guests dining with Miguel and family nightly. Interested in playing mini golf out on the deck? The Disney Dream might be a hit for you!
You’ll find controversial takes about this all over the internet, and “what is best” is a highly opinionated and loaded topic. However, I tend to recommend the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, or Disney Destiny to first-time families of Disney Cruise Line. These ships provide familiar, current Disney characters, spaces, and theming to young cruisers that ships such as the Magic and Wonder just don’t.

How Much Does a Disney Cruise Cost?
Cost is a major factor for families when planning any vacation. When considering Disney Cruise Line, you can expect to pay more than you will for many other major cruise lines. And, when factoring cost, it’s important to have a baseline of what is included in your total versus what is extra.
Included in your cruise fare will be:
- Room accommodations
- Multiple dining options
- Complimentary sodas, teas, coffee, and juices
- Complimentary ice cream
- 24/7 complimentary room service
- Entertainment options
- Broadway-style shows
- Character meet-and-greets
- Recreation activities
Additional charges will include, but are not limited to:
- Alcoholic and specialty beverages
- Speciality dining options
- Shore excursions
- Airfare or ground transportation
- Spa services
- Laundry
- Gratuities

So, How Much Does it Cost to Take a Family of Four on a Disney Cruise?
A few factors will affect your total cruise fare, including stateroom type, time of year, and which ship you choose. All prices are based on double occupancy, and kids’ fares are less than adult fares.
Here are a few examples for a family of four – two adults and two children ages 2 and 4:
- 3-night Caribbean sailing on the Disney Wish in June 2026 – Inside Stateroom: $4,455
- 3-night Caribbean sailing on the Disney Wish in June 2026 – Veranda Stateroom: $5,247
- 5-night Caribbean sailing on the Disney Fantasy in June 2026 – Inside Stateroom: $6,530
- 5-night Caribbean sailing on the Disney Fantasy in June 2026 – Verandah Stateroom: $7,350
- 7-night Caribbean sailing on the Disney Treasure in June 2026 – Inside Stateroom: $ 9,095
- 7-night Caribbean sailing on the Disney Treasure in June 2026 – Verandah Stateroom: $ 10,774
For comparison, a 3-night sailing on the Disney Wish in February 2026 (the offseason), for an inside stateroom, is $3,210 total. That’s over one thousand dollars less for the same cruise.
Overall, depending on the ship, the sailing date, and the stateroom selection, expect to pay anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 per adult and $500- $1,500 per child for a family of four.
